It’s a sunny day, with a nice light breeze
The birds are singing in the trees
A great day thinks Ozzie to venture out
And chase some sticks and run about
I wonder what Nana or Poppa might say
To a nice walk down to the beach today

Nana was busy baking a cake
“Oh Ozzie” she cried “for heavens sake
Go and see Poppa, I’m sure he’ll be free
To take you and Kobe down to the sea”
But Poppa just waved Ozzie away
“I’ll take you boys down later today”

“I’m sure” woofed Ozzie “we could sneak out
And go down the beach to muck about
They won’t even notice that we have gone
And anyway we’ll be back before long”
So off to the beach those naughty dogs snuck
Hoping not to get caught, with any luck

They chased each other and had lots of fun
The sand felt warm on their paws from the sun
Then Kobe spied, to his delight
A bright red ball just to his right
It was under the root of a fallen tree
If I could get that, that’ll do me

He panted and puffed and slithered and slunk
Under the base of the trees’ shiny trunk
His nose touched the side of that bright shiny ball
Now if I could just stretch out my paw
That ball could be mine and he quivered with glee
I’ll share it with Oz if I could just get it free

But much to Kobe’s great dismay
He couldn’t move much any way
Oh no, thought Kobe it’s just my luck
To get this far and then to get stuck
Poor Ozzie didn’t know what to do
He had to help, that’s all he knew

He ran up to a family out for the day
“Hey boy” said the Dad, “Do you want to play?”
“No” woofed Ozzie, “Kobe’s under a tree
He can’t get out. Can you please help me?”
The man just laughed and threw him a stick
Poor Ozzie then woofed “Oh please help me. Quick”

He spies young Jenssen with some of his friends
“Hey Jenssen”, woofs Ozzie. “Do you think you could lend
A hand to help my mate get free
He’s got himself stuck under a tree
“Its Ozzie”, yelled Jenssen and threw him a ball
But Ozzie did not want to play at all

“Oh why doesn’t anyone understand
That my mate is stuck and needs a hand
There’s only one thing left to do
Go home, get Poppa to come and help you”
“Be quick” whimpers Kobe from under the tree
“The tide’s coming in and it might get me”

So Ozzie raced home as fast as he could
Poppa will help, he was sure he would
I might get in trouble but never mind
It’ll be worth it to get Kobe out of this bind
“Poppa” woofed Ozzie as he charged through the gate
Kobe needs help and it really can’t wait

Then whirling around, he ran just as fast
Back to his mate and, happy at last
As Poppa followed him in his truck
Down to where poor Kobe was stuck
With his trusty chainsaw he soon had him free
While lapping at his heels was the incoming sea

“You should really be punished, Kobe and Oz”
Poppa said sternly, “but I won’t because
Ozzie you did a good thing for your mate
You helped save Kobe from an awful fate”
And Kobe, now clean and a nice big feed
And his new red ball, simply agreed
