South Auckland Writers welcomes writers, authors and would-be writers who want to be part of a supportive and collegial group. There is no charge to belong although there might be a cost to attend some meetings and workshops.
While this group is primarily for those who live and work in South Auckland (Otahuhu, Manukau, Papakura and Franklin), others are very welcome. Members write in different genres and range from new writers to experienced authors. South Auckland Writers was started by some of the members of the Manukau Counties Writers' Group, which began in 2004. Membership is currently around 30.
We have monthly meetings at Papakura’s Sir Edmund Hillary Library on the second Friday on each month from 1– 3pm. These meetings are free to attend because the library generously provides the room, tea and coffee. Meetings can include free writing exercises, guest speakers, discussions and setting a writing task for presentation the following month. See samples below.
